Australia: Classic Coke Taste But Without the Sugar, Claims Coca-Cola’s New Variant

Following on from its debut in Mexico last year, Coke No Sugar is now available in Australia and New Zealand with the planned global rollout predicted to be the biggest launch of a new Coca-Cola since Coke Zero was introduced over a decade ago in 2006. The soft drinks giant promises consumers it has found “the answer” for those who love the taste of Classic Coca-Cola, but are watching their sugar intake with big promises that this is “closer than ever to the classic Coca-Cola taste.”

The launch is the latest to keep pace with the growing demand for low and no sugar alternatives as part healthier lifestyle, which often means ditching sodas packed with sugar.

Coke No Sugar will be available nationally from June 14 in all major and independent retailers in the two countries.

In terms of packaging, the Coke No Sugar variant uses much more obvious labeling to signal its “no sugar” credentials - which is written on a black band on the top of the red can.

Coke No Sugar has launched in Australia after years of research to create the best tasting sugar-free Coke ever, says the company.

“We wanted the experience of drinking Coke No Sugar to be as close as possible to ‘The Real Thing’,” President of Coca-Cola in Australia, Roberto Mercadé, says. “That’s no small task when you consider the original has been cherished by consumers for more than a century.”

Coke No Sugar is the new permanent member of the Coca-Cola family and comes after several years of recipe mixing and flavor trials by experts at Coca-Cola US headquarters.

The marketing surround Coke No Sugar is all about how it offers a new choice for health conscious consumers with the Coca-Cola Company making the leap from offering more choice to actively encouraging people to drink a no sugar option.

“People are looking for a better balance in their diet and lifestyle, which is why we are changing the way we do things here at Coca-Cola,” says Roberto Mercadé.

Coca Cola’s Evolution
Coke No Sugar is the product of years of research and marks the latest step in the evolution of sugar-free Coca-Cola recipes that began with Diet Coke in 1982.

“We continued that journey toward finding a recipe which tastes closer to Coke when we launched Coke Zero in 2006,” Roberto adds. “We are launching the next step in that evolution – Coke No Sugar.

To celebrate the launch Coca-Cola will be giving away more than two million free samples available.

This Australian launch comes at the same time as Coca-Cola Life, containing stevia as an alternative to sugar and other sweeteners, is being phased out in the UK following a dip in sales
