Kraft Heinz opens Digital Hub after acquiring AI firm wellio

Kraft Heinz has opened a new digital hub which will form part of its evolv group, after acquiring AI Food Tech company wellio.

Kraft Heinz’s evolv group was established to create digitally-powered business models to fuel future growth at Kraft Heinz, and the new San Francisco-based digital hub was founded to help support the operations of Kraft Heinz’s newly established Evolv Ventures venture capital arm, which will now form part of the expanded evolv group.

Evolv Ventures was established earlier this month after the company invested $100 million to found the venture fund, which will invest in emerging tech companies that are “transforming the food industry.”

San Francisco was chosen as the location for the new hub as that is where newly-acquired wellio are based. Wellio provides nutritional advice to consumers through an AI-based platform which provides meal planning guides.

The San Francisco location will house a team of software engineers, data scientists, product managers, designers, and members of its eCommerce team.

Nina Barton, president of global digital online growth said: “In wellio, we found extraordinary talent that could fuel our digital ambitions and an AI platform that can help us create food-related solutions for our consumers and help us partner with our customers in a unique way.

“We wanted to take a holistic look at digital disruption and growth. This is part of a larger growth approach for Kraft Heinz and is in addition to our recently announced $100 million venture fund, Evolv Ventures.”
