Modest Mylk launches new category of concentrated “Nut Mylk” bases

Dairy alternatives brand, Modest Mylk has launched a new product line-up of organic, gluten-free, preservative/stabilizer-free and vegan concentrated nut bases. According to the company, the range has been created with the mission to make nut-based dairy alternatives easier and healthier than ever, offering a solution to make fresh and delicious “Nut Mylk” at home.

Interest in plant-based nutrition is showing no signs of slowing down, with The Plant Kingdom pegged as one of Innova Market Insights’ Top Trends for 2019. Plant-based options are flourishing in a range of categories, with dairy alternative beverages, for example, on the rise.

Almost 6 percent of global food and beverage launches recorded by Innova Market Insights in the 12 months to the end of September 2018 featured vegan-friendly positionings, up from just 1 percent five years previously. Even in the relatively developed US market, the share has more than doubled from 3 percent to 8 percent over the same period, while in the UK it is up from less than 5 percent to 13 percent.

Plant-based product claims have increased by 62 percent globally from 2013 to 2017, according to Innova Market Insights data. Within this plethora of plant-based claims, a stand-out group is the plant-based milks, with Innova consumer research indicating that US consumers have increased their consumption of plant-based beverages (as well as yogurt) in the two years to the end of 2017.

The dairy alternatives market has also been a beneficiary of the interest in plant-based diets, with the growing availability and promotion of plant-based options to traditional lines, especially dairy beverages, but also cultured products such as yogurt, frozen desserts and ice cream, creamers and cheese.

In a move to offer something completely new, Modest Mylk has launched Nut Mylk, a first-ever line of concentrated nut bases, which can be made by blending together the base of choice with water for one minute.

The line consists of six flavors including Vanilla, Chocolate, Cashew, Macadamia, Coco-Nut, and Oat-Nut. Sold individually for US$14.99 and packaged in a glass jar that yields 42 8oz . servings, Modest Mylk is 50-80 percent less expensive than other premium nut mylk options, says the company.

The range is also “made with sustainability in mind,” as one small jar is equivalent to 11 cartons of traditional nut mylk, each jar saves 11 cartons from the landfill. The line is now available online via the Modest Mylk website, with the company planning to launch on Amazon soon and expand into retail later this year.

“Making homemade nut mylk can be time-consuming, messy and wasteful. When looking for options in the store, I found myself frustrated by the price, quality and ingredient lists of non-dairy products. This led us to create a new line of concentrated nut mylk bases,” Modest Mylk Founder Rachel Gutierrez notes.

“Modest Mylk is a completely new way of making 100 percent natural nut mylk at home. Now, you can easily make your own delicious, organic, clean-label, nut mylks at home with zero compromises,” she adds.

Each jar of concentrate stays fresh for more than a year when stored in a cool, dry place and each serving of mylk lasts for up to five days in the refrigerator.Modest Mylk can also be used in coffee/tea, cereal, smoothies, cooking/baking recipes, or straight out of the glass, says the company.
